Ronald E. Streeter, 80, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on February 15, 2018. Predeceased by his devoted wife Patricia in 2010, he leaves his son Dennis and wife Michele of Spencer; his daughter Beth Cooksey and husband Shawn of Grafton; and his beloved grandchildren Rebecca, Madison, Emily, Alec, Sierra, and Jordan.
An excellent athlete, Ron played three sports for David Prouty High School – basketball, winning the Clark Tournament in 1956 his senior year; track, holding the long time record in the high jump; and his most accomplished sport, baseball. Ron also went on to become a well known high school and college baseball umpire in Central Massachusetts. In his later years, golf was his favorite pastime- with many rounds played with his wife, son, granddaughters, son-in-law and daughter-in-law, and many friends. Ron especially enjoyed his trip to the 2015 British Open in Scotland with his children and the 19 years volunteering for the annual PGA Tournament at Innisbrook.
In the late 70’s, Ron took great pride in heading the Recreation Department in East Brookfield. He was instrumental in building and renovating the sports fields for the town youth. Most summer evenings you could find Ron watering the fields with the town fire hose. Additionally, Ron worked with the townspeople of East Brookfield to build a much needed addition to the Memorial School. He also coached several youth sports teams in East Brookfield.
Ron graduated with a Degree in Engineering from Wentworth Institute in Boston. Following graduation, he joined the Army Reserves, and it was at that time, on a beach in New Jersey, that he met his his wife, Patricia Porter. Ron and Pat married two years later and for 49 years, raised their children in East Brookfield and Spencer. Ron worked as an Engineer for several companies, most proudly worked for Norton Company, retiring after 20 years of service. At that time Ron and Pat retired to Florida where Ron was thrilled to have Pat finally join him on the golf course.
Although Ron had many professional and athletic accomplishments, his biggest accomplishment in life was his treasured and devoted family. Ronald and Patricia enjoyed many special vacations, summers and holidays with their children and grandchildren. Ron could always be seen cheering on his children at their sporting events; he never missed a game. Later in life, Ron was proud to be his grandchildren’s biggest fan. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Ron’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the UMass Memorial Oncology and Palliative Care Departments, as well as the Rose Monahan Hospice Home for their kindness and compassion during his illness.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 3 at 2 p.m. in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Calling hours will precede the services on Saturday from Noon to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, East Brookfield. The family asks that flowers be omitted and donations be made to the the High School that he loved, David Prouty Athletic Booster Club, P.O.Box 444, Spencer, MA 01562.
