Lucrezia "Grace" Cariglia

Mrs. Lucrezia “Grace “M. (DiPilato) Cariglia, 92, passed away Monday February 12th with her family by her side at St Vincent Medical Center.

Grace was born in Worcester on June 2, 1925 daughter of the late Pantaleo and Teresa (Patruno) DiPilato. Loving wife to the late Michael John Cariglia. Grace is survived by her three daughters, Jean and Ann Cariglia with whom she lived with, her first child, Nancy Engels and husband Jim, and light of her life granddaughter, Jaimie Engels, who discovered her ‘Secret Diary’.

She is survived by a brother and sister, Frank DiPilato and Angelina Pepin, and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sisters Jennie Vastila and Lee Murphy, and brothers Joseph, John and Domenic DiPilato.

Grace graduated from Worcester Commerce High School and worked several jobs through her youth and the war including Norton Company and U.S. Steel, until her daughter’s arrival, then becoming a stay at home mom. As she raised her girls, she became active in community, politics, the PTA, took care of her parents, and took courses at Holy Cross College. She returned to the workforce and became Principal Clerk at the Worcester Dept. of Public Works up until her retirement.

Grace was very involved in her Catholic faith. She was one of the founding members of St Joan of Arc, was a parishioner of the former Our Lady of Mt Carmel- St Ann Church and Our Lady of Loreto Church. She was very involved with the Rice Sq. School PTA for many years, helping to raise money for many school projects and renovations.

A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Grace was a proud descendant of Italian immigrants, unchallenged in her cooking talents. She would treat all with kindness and equality, and her friends often became like family.

Her funeral will take place on Thursday February 15th at FAZIO FUNERAL HOME, 9 Branch St Worcester. A funeral mass will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Worcester at 11:00am. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester . Calling hours will be Thursday morning February 15th from 9:00am to 10:30am .
