TEWKSBURY - Joanne C. (Underhill) Butler, age 83, died peacefully on Monday, February 12, at Lowell General’s Saints Campus. She had been in residence at the Life Care Center in Billerica for nine months.
She was born in Waltham, one of six children of the late Waverly and Ella (Grady) Underhill, and graduated from Waltham High School. She raised her family of five in Tewksbury, while working at MA/COM in Burlington. In addition to her day job, she worked weekends for Catering By Therese based at the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge for over thirty years. She had also waitressed at the Branding Iron Restaurant and the Tewksbury Inn for many years. But of all her jobs, her proudest accomplishment was raising her beloved children. She had been long time resident of Saunders Circle, and most recently, the Villas at Corrine’s Way senior housing in Tewksbury.
Joanne was a member of the Tewksbury Congregational Church.
She was a faithful attendee of St. William’s Bingo and the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Bingo nights, held several offices in the Tewksbury-Wilmington Emblem Club, was a member of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club, was a member of the Red Hat Society, and was a well known member of the Tewksbury Senior Center community.
She leaves her children, Mark Butler of Dracut, Cheryl A. Loughran of Lowell, Robin L. Serafini of Windham, NH, Bonnie R. Merrick and her husband Stephen of Methuen, and Lisa M. Price and her husband Gregory of So. Greer, S.C.; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Leon Underhill, Sterling Underhill, Shirley Larson, Olga Rankin, and Miriam Bourque.
Visiting hours Thursday, Feb. 15, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950.
