Dr. Katherine Inez Marcott Stannard
Professor Dr. Katherine “Kay” Stannard, 93, of Paxton, MA. passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 2, 2018.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of sixty years, Professor George E. Stannard and her beloved grandson, Kory Stewart Stannard. She is survived by her son, Russell George Stannard and his wife Dr. Jean Stannard of Barre, MA; her daughter, Rev. Barbara Jean Stannard of Paxton, MA; her son Edward Albert Stannard and his wife Karen Stannard of Godfrey, Il; and Karen’s sons Andrew Schmidt and Justin Schmidt and his family.

Kay was born on November 8, 1924 in Erie, PA., daughter of Albert and Ruth “Downs” Marcott. She received a Bachelors in French and a Masters in History of Arts from Boston University; a Masters in Education from Assumption College and a Doctorate in Education from Clark University. Kay worked at the MIT Radiation Lab during World War II; as an Elementary School Art Teacher in Auburn, MA. and privately tutored many young people in reading. She was a tenured faculty member at Framingham State College, as a Professor of Psychology, for seventeen years before her retirement.

Kay was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for 69 years. She sang in the choir, served as a Sunday school teacher and was editor of the church newsletter “The Red Door Record”. She was also the editor of the newsletter for NEARA and published many articles in the Swedenborgian Journal, entitled “Chrysalis”. She was an avid fundraiser and supporter of many charitable organizations especially Camp Putnam. She was a season ticket holder for Foothills Theater, Mechanics Hall and the Worcester Chamber Music Society. She was an artist of water colors and portraits, a sculptor and a great lover of classical music, gardening and reading. She traveled extensively throughout Europe. She lived life to the fullest and brought great joy and happiness to her family, colleagues and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday February 10th at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 921 Pleasant Street., Worcester. A Private Burial will be held at Mooreland Cemetery in Paxton. Funeral arrangements are under the care of CALLAHAN, FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester.
