Obituary

ROCHDALE: Leona A. (Pion) Mayo, 90, of Charlton St., died Thursday, February 1, 2018, at her home.



Leona was never without a smile or kind word in any circumstance. She leaves her devoted husband of 62 years, Robert H. Mayo, a son Joseph F. Mayo and his wife Cindy of Rochdale, daughters Nancy A. Hume and her husband Greg of Athol, and Judith A. Gauvin and her husband Tom of Sutton; 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren in whom she found great joy. She also leaves a brother Victor A. Pion of Worcester, 3 sisters: Claire McGaugh of Stoughton, Alice Vandal of Webster and Irene Mayo of Leicester; many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two infant sons, a brother Leo Pion and a sister Doris Mayo.



Born in North Grafton, she was the daughter of Wilbert F. and Mary L. (Desmarais) Pion and graduated from Grafton High School in 1945. Leona worked in the thread department at Woolworths and later was an office clerk for Melville Shoe Co. in Worcester before the kids came along, and was the office manager for the family business in the 1960’s, Mayo’s TV and Appliances. Leona enjoyed getting together with her family for Sunday munchies as well as with her siblings to play cards. She was a member of St. Aloysius-St. Jude Parish and its Ladies Guild, and a long-time supporter of Boy Scout Troop 125.



Her funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb.10 with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Aloysius-St. Jude Church, 489 Pleasant St., Leicester. Burial will follow in St. Philip's Cemetery, Grafton. Calling hours are Friday, Feb. 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester.
