Christy R. "Chris" Zguro

EAST LONGMEADOW - Christy R. "Chris" Zguro, 87, a former longtime resident of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, January 4, 2018. He passed into Eternal Life at his residence at The Reserve at East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on December 30, 1930, a beloved son of the late Harry P. and Olimbia (Lazarou) Zguro. He was raised in Springfield, graduated from the former Springfield Technical High School and was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He furthered his education and graduated from the Goff School of Business and later received an Associate's Degree from Springfield Technical Community College. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Berlin Air Lift with the rank of Master Sergeant. He reenlisted in the Air National Guard and continued to work at Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield and later worked at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee. He retired after 36 years as a Data Processing Supervisor with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He attended Saint Nicholas Church in Southbridge and was a member of the Adriatic Club, the Marconi Club and the Elks Lodge No. 61, all in Springfield and the NCO Club at Barnes Air National Guard Base. Above all, he loved spending time with beloved family and his many dear friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Beth G. (Lyon) Zguro who was Called Home on January 19, 2006. They were married on September 7, 1953 at the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 52 years of happiness together. He leaves his four loving children, Christy R. "Chris" Zguro, Jr. and his wife, Gail, of East Longmeadow, Paul J. Zguro and his wife, Julieanne, of Springfield, James E. "Jimmy" Zguro and his wife, Tammy, of Enfield, CT and Cynthia A. "Cindy" O'Brien and her husband, Thomas, of Springfield; his six cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Zguro, Joseph Zguro and his wife, Jess, Angela Zguro, Michael Paul Zguro, Jennifer Neseralla and her husband, Adam, and Heather Ferreira and her husband, Raul; his three cherished great-grandsons, Drew Zguro and Logan and Lucas Ferreira; his two dear sisters, Katherine Zguro of Agawam and Helen Magni of Springfield; his two dear brothers-in-law, John "Yaco" Dowd, and Richard J. Lyon and his wife, Maureen, all of Springfield; his dear sister-in-law, Hilda Lyon of Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Zguro and Lyon families. In addition to his beloved parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his dear sister, Elizabeth Dowd; and his two dear brothers-in-law, George Magni and Leroy E. Lyon, Jr. His family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at The Reserve at East Longmeadow, most especially, Bonnie and Mosu, for the wonderful care they provided Chris during his stay with them. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday morning, January 10, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.). His Burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Prayer Service at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129.
