Martha Belle “Marty” (Hamilton) Bliss, age 72, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her adoring family on Monday, January 1, 2018 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of Gerry F. Bliss, to whom she was wed on September 12, 1970.
Born in Barbourville, Kentucky on July 15, 1945, she was a loving daughter of the late Edd and Rosalee Hamilton.
Marty grew up, and was educated in Kentucky and the age of 18 moved to Washington, DC. After marrying Gerry, the couple moved to Pennsylvania and later to Mansfield where she has made her home for the past thirty-nine years.
Mrs. Bliss was a retired Paralegal Secretary and prior to retiring had been employed for twenty-eight years at the law firm of Biggar & Biggar in Wrentham.
Marty’s family was her first priority and the focal point of her life. Along with her husband, her hobbies included sailing.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her devoted children Stephanie L. Bliss-Chin and her husband Curtis of Norwell and Brian O. Bliss of Chelmsford. She was the cherished grandmother of Naomi and Emmitt, the dear sister-in-law of Nancy Bach of Foxboro and Rick Bliss of Mansfield, and is also survived by 8 siblings, and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, January 6th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
A service will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Marty’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215 or the Sturdy Memorial Foundation, 211 Park St., Attleboro, MA 02703.
