David G. Buckel

CHICOPEE – David G. Buckel, 80, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at West Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Port Chester, New York on October 8, 1937, the beloved son of the late Samuel and Emily (McCombie) Buckel. He was raised in Port Chester, graduated from Port Chester High School and moved to Chicopee in 1961 where he resided the remainder of his life. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of Specialist Second Grade. He furthered his education and graduated from DeVry University in Chicago. He was employed as a computer technician for Remington Rand in Springfield, which later merged with Univac in Windsor, CT and then Unisys in Rocky Hill, CT. He was a communicant of the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr and a member of the Willimansett American Legion Post 353, both in Chicopee. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and his many dear friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Lucille (Paul) Buckel. They were married on February 16, 1963 at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 54 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving daughter, Denise T. Buckel of Chicopee; and his dear sister-in-law, Gaetane Paul of Springfield. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving daughter, Dianne Marie Buckel who was Called Home on January 24, 2017; his dear nephew, Joseph Paul; and his two dear brothers-in-law, Dr. Richard Paul and J. Robert Paul and his wife, Doris (Mainville) Paul. His family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at Wingate at West Springfield for their compassionate care of David during his time with them. His Funeral will be held on Saturday morning, December 30, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr, 566 Front Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. His Burial with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning, December 30, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the Mass. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
