Obituary

Elizabeth A. Smith, 77 of Holden passed away peacefully at home on December 22nd after a long battle with a chronic illness.

Betty was born in Leominster, MA in 1940 and grew up in several surrounding towns. She was a graduate of Narragansett High School and worked at Lilly Varnish after graduation. Her employment included the A&P Supermarket as well as years as the office manager of the family business, Bay State Controls Corp. where she worked side by side with her husband.

Betty was a person full of spirit and a love for life. Early on she belonged to a bowling league at Gardner Ten Pins which she enjoyed so much. She spent the majority of her life taking care of her family as well as being supportive of friends, not only her own but those of her children. She made her home one that was welcoming to all and full of love and warmth which was shared with everyone from deep in her heart.

She took great pleasure in all of what life had to offer; loving the beach and the ocean where she spent so much time over the years with her family and friends, loved to dance every chance she had, loved to sing, with music always woven into her life. Betty lived her life as a humble person, never putting on airs, always keeping her down to earth nature.

She leaves behind two daughters, Sheri Pierce of Sterling and Debra Smith Rigney of Holden who lived with her, a son, Christopher Smith of Leominster, nine Grandchildren, and one Great Granddaughter as well as a sister Ellen Chapman and a brother, Warren “Buddy” Beal. Betty also leaves her son-in-law, George Rigney of Holden who was much more like a son to her.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald, her daughter Linda, her parents, Harry and Jennie Beal, a brother, Bernie Beal and a sister Annie Flagg. She will be missed more than words can ever convey but will live on forever in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her.
