FALL RIVER… Edward Moniz Pontes, 90, of Fall River passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Fall River Jewish Home.
He was the husband of the late Emily (Freitas) Pontes.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Manuel M. and Mary L. (Costa) Pontes and had been a lifelong resident of this city.
Mr. Pontes worked as a Tool Maker and was a member as the Fall River VFW and the Santo Christo Band. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, the New England Patriots and was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan.
Survivors include his son Paul E. Pontes of Mansfield, a sister, Evelyn Cabral of Fall River, a brother, John R. Pontes of Lamirada, CA, 2 grandchildren; Nicole Lee Pontes & Shawn Edward Pontes, 4 great grandchildren; Emmalynda Lee Pontes, Joshua Edward Pontes, Shawn Payton Pontes & Tyler Pontes, several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Cecila Borges and Rita Pontes.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Monday at 9 AM from the South Coast Funeral Home, 1555 Pleasant St. Fall River, MA 02723 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Espirito Santo Church, Alden St. Fall River, MA. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 5-8 PM.
