WORCESTER – Mr. Richard K. Battelle, 94, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday December 3rd at the Jewish Healthcare Center, Worcester.

Richard was born on November 10, 1923 in Worcester, Massachusetts a son of the late Frederick and Marie (Roberts) Battelle. He was the loving husband of forty-six years to the late Mary (Bertone) Battelle.

A lifelong resident, he was a graduate of Boys Trade School. He served his country in the Army Air Force from 1943- 1945 during World War II. Richard had over fifty missions during and after the war, receiving four Bronze Battle Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, two Oak Leaf Clusters, one Overseas Bar, and two Air Medals.

Upon his return, he was a driver and manager for People’s laundry for twenty-six years. He then worked for ten years at Moran Shoes, and most recently up until his retirement at UMass Hospital as a supervisor for the Environmental Building Services for twelve years.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt Carmel- St Ann Church. Richard was an active volunteer for the United Way- Seven Hills Foundation helping with many golf tournaments at Pleasant Valley C.C. that raised money for Muscular Dystrophy and the American Heart Association.

His hobbies included golfing and fishing.

Richard was pre-deceased by his son, Richard Battelle, his daughter, Barbara Battelle, his three brothers, Joseph, William and Leonard.

His family would like to thank the staff at the Jewish Healthcare Center for taking caring of Richard for and extended period of time and for their professionalism.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Jean A. (Bourassa) Catino Battelle of Worcester, his daughter, Michele Battelle of Sterling and his stepson, Michael Catino of Nevada, also many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will take place on Friday, December 8th at FAZIO FUNERAL HOME, 9 Branch St Worcester. Calling hours will be Friday morning at the funeral home from 8:30am to 10:30am . A Funeral Mass will follow at Our Lady of Loreto- Our Lady of Mt Carmel- St. Ann Church, 33 Massasoit Rd. Worcester, Ma. 01604 at 10:45am. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
