McCarthy, Sheila M., 81, a lifelong resident of Boston, died after a year’s illness on November 13, 2017. She was born on December 4, 1935, the eldest child of Harold T. and Helen A. (O’Connor) McCarthy. She is survived by her siblings: Geoffrey T. McCarthy and his wife, Deborah, of Millis; Carol A. Leahy and her husband, Kenneth, of Wellesley, and Mary K. Speare and her husband, John J. Flynn, of Lexington. She was also the sister-in-law of the late Joel C. Speare. Sheila was the devoted aunt of Geoffrey and Jonathan Speare; Stephen and Andrew Leahy and Gillian Jervis; Gregory and the late Elizabeth McCarthy. She also leaves her grand nieces and nephews: Bharat, Olin, Elliott, Kate, Maren, Alex, Caroline, Anna, Henry, Jack, Lucy, Peter, Frances and Thomas.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 16, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, South Street, Jamaica Plain at 11:00 am.
Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre Street, West Roxbury.
Burial will be in the family plot at Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline.
The family is grateful to the staffs at Care One in Lexington and Compassionate Care Hospice for their dedicated care this past year.
