Obituary

Green, Betty J. (Jeppson) 92, of Concord and Brookfield passed away peacefully on November 8th 2017 surrounded by her beloved children. Born April 30th 1925 in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late George N. and Selma U. (Swanstrom) Jeppson. She was the youngest of three, sister to the late John Jeppson II and Britta D. Jeppson.
She attended Bancroft School in Worcester, Miss Hall’s school in Pittsfield, Bradford Junior College in Haverhill and attended Webber College in Florida graduating with a degree in Art. Beginning with a summer session at Skowhegen Art School in Maine in the late 40’s, Betty pursued a lifelong and creative sense of color, beauty, art, and especially loved painting. She took courses at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and at deCordova Museum and studied with local artists in Concord.
Betty had a kind, generous and caring spirit, with a deep sense of hospitality. She reveled in the splendor of nature, especially enjoying the Concord woods and also the countryside of her family’s Oakholm farm, purchased in the year of her birth in Brookfield.
She adored all animals, but had a special fondness for her beloved and boisterous terriers, raising 2 litters of puppies. Betty was an avid reader with wide ranging interests, and loved birds and gardening. After driving a Bookmobile during the war effort, Betty volunteered in many other capacities: for several local hospitals, schools and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
She was married for many years to David H. Green, whom she later divorced. She is survived by their five children: Anne G. Fortin and her husband Richard of North Yarmouth Maine; Susan E. Swanstrom of Santa Rosa California; David H. Green Jr. and his wife Valerie of Littleton MA; Charles J. Green and his wife Kerin of Concord, MA; and Sarah Jeppson Zitter and her wife Sherry of Maynard and Brookfield, MA. She also leaves nine grandchildren: Adam and Benjamin Fortin, Christian Dietrich, Emily, Hilary and Madeline Green, Patrick Deedy, Rachel and Thomas Green and 2 great grandchildren: Linnea and Henrik Fortin.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church 73 Lancaster St. Worcester. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
