Obituary

Gens, Francis William Of Jamaica Plain and Humarock Beach, passed away October 23, 2017, at the age of 100. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Winifred (Doyle), and his dear parents, Louise (Foley) and Frank Gens, and loving brother, Louis R. Gens. Wonderful father of Marylou Greene and her husband Jim of Jamaica Plain, Timothy Gens and his wife Madeleine of Weston, Frank Gens and his wife Marcia of Lexington; and Lisa Gens and Philip Gens of Jamaica Plain. Cherished grandfather of Lauren and Chris Petrigno, Kathryn Greene, James Greene, Jamie and Merrill Langley, Kathleen Gens, Dylan Gens, Christopher Gens, Russell Gens and Andrew Gens. Loving great-grandfather of Catherine, Merrill and W. Charles Langley, and John and Ava Petrigno. Survived by many devoted nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces & grand-nephews. Frank was a graduate of Tufts College Class of 1939. He had a remarkable 48-year career of public service in the City of Boston, including as Boston's first Housing Inspection Commissioner, Boston Building Commissioner and the first Executive Director of the Boston Water & Sewer Commission. An active parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Jamaica Plain. Longtime community leader in the Jamaica Hills Association and the Humarock Beach Improvement Association. Former member of the Hatherly Country Club, Scituate. Throughout his life, Frank always kept a wonderfully warm, humble and generous spirit – many in the Boston area still remember Frank for offering a helping hand in their own lives and careers.

Funeral from the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St., WEST ROXBURY, on Friday, Oct. 27 at 9:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Jamaica Plain at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours in the funeral home Thursday from 5:00-8:00 pm.

Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
