Barbara A. Murphy, 87, of Worcester died Monday, October 23rd in Notre Dame Long Term Care with her family by her side. Her husband of 60 years, Francis J. Murphy, Jr. died in 2009. She leaves her children, Mary Martha, Barbara, Francis, Michael, Juliana, Thomas, James, Daniel, Therese, Patrick, Margaret Mary, Elizabeth and Joseph; two sisters, Mary McCarthy of Portsmouth, RI and Patricia Calhoun of Hollywood, FL; 42 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Martha; daughter in law, Leah; a son in law, Matthew; a brother, James Mahoney and a sister, Sr. Cecelia James, SSJ.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of James A. and Catherine C. (O’Shea) Mahoney. Barbara attended St. Peter’s Grammar School and graduated St. Peter’s High School. She was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Church and resident of Main South. Barbara taught religious education and was a eucharistic minister visiting the homebound. She was a great cook in tradition of the loaves and fishes.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Harmony Unit at Notre Dame Long Term Care for the compassion and care Barbara received.
Her funeral is Thursday, October 26th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main Street. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A calling hour will be held from 8:30 until 9:30 AM in the funeral home.
