Laurette J. (Lavallee) Marcil

CHICOPEE – Laurette J. (Lavallee) Marcil, 96, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, October 19, 2017. She passed into Eternal Life at the Willimansett Center West in Chicopee surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home on Hamilton Street in Holyoke on October 16, 1921, a beloved daughter of the late Felix and Marie L. (Douville) Lavallee. She was raised in Holyoke, graduated from the former Precious Blood High School in Holyoke and moved to Aldenville in 1940 where she lived for the remainder of her life. She was employed as a cashier for 24 years at the Big Y Supermarket on Meadow Street in Willimansett. She previously worked at the former National Blank Book and Langelier Bakery, both in Holyoke. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. She was a member of the American Legion Post 337 and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliaries, both in Chicopee and the Ladies of the Moose at the Chicopee Moose Family Center 1849. Laurette was an avid baker and enjoyed cake decorating for over 40 years. She enjoyed gardening and often puttered around her yard watching her plants grow. She enjoyed knitting with a small group of women in Aldenville who referred to themselves as “The Knit Wits”. Her knitting friends have all passed away but she will now meet them with her knitting needles in the Heavenly Kingdom. Above all, she loved spending time with her loving family, her many dear friends and her cherished grandchildren who lovingly called her “Memere Shortcake” and who always managed to put a smile on her face. Her family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at the Willimansett Center West in Chicopee for their compassionate care of Laurette while she was with them. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Raymond L. Marcil, Sr. who was Called Home on January 4, 1985. They were married on August 31, 1940 at the former Precious Blood Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 44 years of happiness together. She leaves her four loving children, Maurice V. Marcil and Philip S. Marcil and his wife, Joan, all of Chicopee, Mona L. Friberg and her partner, Gloria Foti, of Southampton, and Margaret M. Leonard of Chicopee; her loving daughter-in-law, Linda Homans-Marcil of Chicopee; her many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Marcil and Lavallee families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving son, Raymond L. Marcil, Jr.; her three cherished grandsons, Raymond E. Marcil, Jeremy Scott and Marcus Marcil; and her dear sister, Rita T. Lavallee. Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, October 24, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, October 23, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located at the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
