Marion E. (Trombley) Leonard Dunphy

SPRINGFIELD – Marion E. (Trombley) Leonard Dunphy, 93, a former longtime resident of the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, October 16, 2017. She passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Morrisonville, New York on January 8, 1924, the beloved daughter of the late John and Willamena (Bedore) Trombley. She was raised in Morrisonville, NY, graduated the former D-Youville Academy in Plattsburg, NY and had lived in Plattsburg for ten years before moving to Springfield in 1946 where she lived for the remainder of life. She was employed for over 35 years at the New England Telephone Company in Springfield where she worked as a phone operator and later as a central ticket investigator and retired in 1983. She was a communicant of the former Saint Mary Church, now Mary, Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield where she also was a member and Past President of the Women’s Club of the Church. She also was a member of the East Springfield Golden Age Club, the Telephone Pioneers and was an active volunteer at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield for many years. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who showered her family with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved first husband, Gerald H. Leonard who was Called Home on December 11, 1968; her beloved second husband, Michael J. Dunphy who was Called Home on December 13, 1993; her beloved daughter, Linda A. Wessig who was Called Home on October 13, 2010; and her dear sisters-in-law, Catherine Trombly and Marion Donah. She leaves her loving daughter, Carol M. Barton of East Longmeadow; her loving son, John H. Leonard and his wife, Martha, of Monson; her nine cherished grandchildren; her 12 cherished great-grandchildren; her four cherished great-great-grandchildren; and her many dear friends and extended members of the Leonard, Dunphy and Trombley families. Her Funeral will be held on Saturday morning, October 21, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning, October 21, 2017 from 8-9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
