DUDLEY – Irene R. (Martel) Grzyb, 90, of Joshua Place, died Monday, September 18, 2017 in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge with family at her side. Her husband of 46 years, Henry “Hot Dog” Grzyb, died in 1995.
She leaves a son, Vincent E. Grzyb and his wife Sandra A. Grzyb of Webster; a daughter, Debra A. Grzyb-Murphy and her wife Sharon E. Grzyb-Murphy of Charlton; a grandson, Joel Henry Grzyb of Webster; a great-grandson, Braylon Vincent Grzyb; 2 sisters, Lorraine Gervais of Chepachet, RI and Geraldine Cole of Harrisville, RI; and many nieces, nephews and good friends at Joshua Place. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Lillian Grzyb, Louise Lefler and Rosalie Tessier and by 2 brothers, Raymond and Eugene Martel.
She was born and raised in Webster, the daughter of Eugene P. and Rose Ann (Lemay) Martel and moved to Dudley when she married in 1948. She attended Bartlett High School.
Mrs. Grzyb was a stitcher all her life. She worked at Webster Shoe, Bates Shoe and B & W Footwear before retiring in 1988.
Her family was her treasure. She also enjoyed cooking, reading and shopping. She was a devoted Patriots and Red Sox fan.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, September 30, at 1:00 PM in the First Congregational Church of Dudley, 135 Center Road. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Donations in her name may be made to the First Congregational Church of Dudley Deacons’ Fund (to provide financial assistance to parishioners in need), 135 Center Road, Dudley, MA 01571. Arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., Webster.
