Funeral services for Dr. J. C. “Jack” Greene, Jr., 89, of Ashburn, GA will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 4, 2017 at Ashburn First United Methodist Church, Ashburn, GA. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Ashburn, GA. Dr. Greene passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017 at his residence.
The son of the late Julian Cicero Greene, Sr. and Edna Mae Gould Greene, he was born in Savannah, GA. He was a member of Ashburn First United Methodist Church. He was an optometrist who practiced in Ashburn and Sylvester. He was former Director of Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chairman of the Official Board of Ashburn First United Methodist Church, former Sunday School Superintendent, avid Golfer-- member of the “Over the Hill Golf Gang”, former member of Ashburn Kiwanis Club, former member of Turner County Board of Education and received the Citizen of the Year in 2014. He served his country in the U. S. Navy from 1946 – 1948. Survivors include his wife Betty Jo Higgins Greene; one son, John (Mary Catherine) Greene, Grayson, GA; two daughters, Lynn G. Christian, Ashburn, GA; Shirley (Bill) Cohn, Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren, Brad Christian, Ashburn, GA; Blake Christian, Ashburn, GA; Lindsey (Justin) Kurlander, Tallahassee, FL; Adam Greene, Tallahassee, FL; Allison Greene, Grayson, GA; Austin Greene, Grayson, GA and Will Cohn, Dallas, TX. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert James Greene. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 3, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Perry Funeral Chapel. | ||||
