SPENCER; Joyce E. (Ward) McAfee, 74, of West Main Street died Friday, August 11 in her home after an illness.
Her husband Harold J. "Satch" McAfee died in 2011. She leaves daughters; Wendy J. Casker and her husband Kevin of Westminster, MD, and Trina M. Lachance and her husband Dan of Ware, Step-daughters whom she considered her own; Theresa A. Buckland and her husband Ken of East Brookfield, Shirley L. McAfee of Oakham, Roberta M. Provost and her husband Norman of Spencer, Lori J. Godin and her husband Roger of Spencer, a brother Jack Ward of Kingman, AZ, 12 grandchildren; Ian, Jocelyn, Daniel, Brian, Heath, Spencer, Scott, Norman, Jackie, Ali, Erica and Kelly, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, several nieces and nephews, her dearest friend for over 40 years Marcia Terry of Brookfield and her faithful and loyal canine companion Luke. She was pre-deceased by a step-daughter Kathleen McAfee.
Joyce was born in Worcester, daughter of John and Ingrid (Anderson) Ward. She graduated from Classical High School in Worcester. She was a bookkeeper for many years at the family business, West County Radiator, retiring in 1996. She was very artistic and loved quilting, stained glass, painting, cooking, canning, hosting parties and holiday dinners. She traveled extensively with her husband in their motor-home. They particularly enjoyed wintering in South Florida in the areas of Homestead and Islamorada in the Florida Keys.
Calling hours are Thursday, August 17 from 5:00-7:00 PM, concluding with a time of family sharing in J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery, North Brookfield will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 136, East Brookfield, MA. 01515
