Obituary

Worcester – Richard J. Mawdsley, 72, of Worcester died on Wednesday, August 2 with his family by his side in Saint Vincent Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Mawdsley is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary K. (Thomas) Mawdsley; his four children, Richard Mawdsley Jr. of Sturbridge, Tracy Grillo of Manchester, CT, Debra Dimopoulos of Dalton, MA and Matthew Mawdsley and his wife, Sandy of Spencer; a brother, Herbert Mawdsley and his wife, Linda of Shrewsbury; a sister, Betty Wade of North Brookfield; 8 grandchildren, Anthony, Danielle, Mariah, Megan, Sophia, Jessica, Alexis and Derrick; 2 great grandchildren, Norah and Nina and many nephews and nieces.
He was born in Worcester, son of the late Herbert T. and Ellen T. (Foley) Mawdsley and is also predeceased by a brother in law, Carl Wade. Mr. Mawdsley is a graduate of Shrewsbury High School and served in the United States Navy.
Richard worked for over 30 years with the Worcester Regional Transportation Authority and retired in 2000 as a purchasing agent. He was an avid sports fan and especially of the New England sports teams and enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching movies, hiking and trips to the beach. However, Mr. Mawdsley was the happiest when he was spending time with his family, especially his 10 grandchildren.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday, August 11 from 5to 7 PM in the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester.
