Joan M. Whitaker (Amirault) age 81 of Quincy, formerly of Canton passed away May 31st at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton. Born and raised in East Boston, she attended Sacred Heart School in East Boston, Cathedral High School and Quincy College. She was a devoted homemaker and mother and enjoyed being with her family, reading, playing the organ and had a strong Catholic Faith. Joan also enjoyed traveling and spending time at the family homes in Meredith, NH and Sarasota, FL. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed telling them stories. Beloved wife of Ernest N. Mother of Ernest “Ron” Whitaker and his wife Daria of Milton, Carol Downey and her husband James of Rockland, Dolores Johnson and her husband Steven of Foxboro, Joanne Colassi and her husband George of Norton and the late Richard “Ricky” Whitaker. Sister of Charles Amirault of Randolph and the late Joseph Amirault previously of New York. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Monday 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church Canton Tuesday morning at 10:30.
