Obituary

Margaret N. "Maggie" Gikas, 64, of Worcester died Saturday, January 21st in UMass Medical Center after a brief illness. Her husband of 16 years, Dennis A. Wixted died in 2007. She is survived by her mother, Aphrodite (Kamtsikas) Gikas; her cousin Katherine Tsigas, her husband Panagiotis and their son, Christos of Worcester; her sister-in-law Margaret Feeley and her husband, Jack of Worcester; and many cousins in Worcester and in Greece.

She was born in Worcester, her father was the late Christie E. Gikas. Maggie had owned and operated the Paper Emporium on Highland Street for 15 years and later had worked as Activity Director at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was a graduate of Doherty Memorial High School and attended the Worcester Art Museum School. Maggie was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church and enjoyed listening to books on tape and cooking shows. Both she and her husband were avid cooks. She will be remembered as a generous and loyal friend with an ever present smile on her face and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Margaret's family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at UMass Medical Center for the wonderful care and support provided to Maggie during her stay.

Her funeral is Thursday, January 26th, with a service at 10:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 34 Gold Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, January 25th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue and on the morning of the funeral from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. at the church .
