Obituary

WORCESTER: Richard C. Deignan, 90, died peacefully on December 30, 2016 at the Dodge Park Rest Home, with his family at his side.

He leaves his wife, Helen (Pilson) Deignan; four step-children, Steven, Janet, Carol and Judy Royal; three step-grandchildren, Calvin, Kaci and Jacob; and many nieces and nephews. His first wife, Ann M. (Sheehan) Deignan, three siblings, Joseph, Margaret and Mary, and his beloved cat Oreo, all predeceased him. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late Charles and Hannah J. (McGrail) Deignan and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.

Richard worked at Heald Machine for 27 years. He later worked for 8 years at Worcester Gear Works until he retired in 1991. He was a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Greendale Retired Men’s Club. He was proud of his Irish heritage, enjoyed playing chess and working in his yard. He will be remembered as a kind, loving and generous man full of laughter and a joy for life.

CALLING HOURS will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on THURSDAY, JAN. 5, at KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 a.m. on FRIDAY, JAN. 6 at IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 353 Grove Street, followed by burial in St. John’s Cemetery.
