Isabelle Paine Middendorf

A service celebrating the life of Isabelle Paine Middendorf, 86, of Little Compton will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, December 10, 2016 at First Baptist Old Stone Church in Tiverton, RI with Mark Gelinas and Don Givler officiating.
Mrs. Middendorf was born on May 14, 1930 in Newton, MA to the late Francis W. and Frances (Hatch) Paine, and she died December 1, 2016. She grew up in Chestnut Hill and Swampscott, MA and had lived in Little Compton since 1995. She was a 1953 graduate of Children's Hospital School of Nursing, Boston, and she worked at St. Vincent's Hospital, preemie division, in New York City. After marrying J. William Middendorf, II, she raised five children while living in New York, Connecticut, Virginia, the Netherlands, and Rhode Island.

Mrs. Middendorf was a dedicated Christian whose goal in life was to serve Jesus. She served as a foster mother to newborns, was a part-time chaplain at Sarah Brayton Nursing Care Center in Fall River, and volunteered at the After Abortion Helpline in Providence and at the Women to Women Pro-Life Group in Fall River. She enjoyed reading, opera, and walking on the beach.

Survivors along with her husband include 2 sons: John Middendorf and wife Jeni of Australia, Roxy Paine and wife Sofia of Brooklyn, NY; 2 daughters: Frances Middendorf of Italy and Amy Givler and husband Don of Monroe, LA; 3 brothers, F. Ward Paine, Lincoln Paine, and Michael Paine; her sister Sara Lofving; 7 grandchildren, Martha Grace Givler, Pete Givler, John Givler, Rowen Middendorf, Remi Middendorf, Laila Paine, and Wolfie Paine; and by her great-grandson Sawyer Givler.

She was the mother of the late Martha Middendorf and sister of the late Martha Paine Newell.

She will be buried in Union Cemetery, Little Compton.
