Obituary

Margaret Jansky (McDonough) passed away May 31st 2016 at the age of 83. She died peacefully, well taken care of and in comfort, visited by family and friends. Born on February 4th, 1933 she was the youngest of eleven children. Her parents, Michael McDonough and Mary (O'Toole) McDonough were from County Galway Ireland. The family lived in the St Mark’s section of Dorchester.
Artistically talented she took classes at Vesper George School of Art as a young woman. She married Ronald Jansky and had three children while living in Dorchester and going to nursing school. The family moved to Lawrence MA in 1974 where she had a fulfilling and rewarding career as a nurse at Mary Immaculate Nursing Home. She lived in Lawrence until 2014 when she moved to Mount Pleasant Home in Jamaica Plain where she received exceptional care and her quirky humor was much appreciated.
She is survived by her daughters Mary Fennessy, happily married to John Fennessy of Braintree MA, Christine Jansky, a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design of Roslindale MA, her sister Theresa Powers of Quincy MA, her ex husband Ronald Jansky of Calabash NC and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased of her beloved son Bobby, her siblings Joey, Rita, Francis, John, Michael, Patrick, Helen, Winnifred and Mary.
She was intelligent, witty, artistic, eccentric, intuitive and at times a feisty redhead. Growing up in a large Irish Catholic family she was strong and independent. She loved her profession and caring for the elderly. A lover of books and the skilled use of words she was very articulate. A true night person, one of her great joys was talking late into the night, better still if singing was involved. She admired slightly wacky people, artists, poets, dancers and funny people but her greatest love was music. Carly Simon, Carole King and James Taylor were some of her favorites, often singing one of their songs, slightly off key, late at night at family parties in Dorchester.
She suffered great tragedy in her life but was able to sustain the ability to see and greatly appreciate beauty in this world. It was her great strength which stayed with her until her last breath.
She was an original and will be greatly missed.
