Obituary

Cohen, Maurice S. longtime resident of Portland Maine and later Boca Raton FL on Monday, April 25, 2016. Beloved husband of Phyllis (Herman). Devoted father of Diane Stempel and husband Daniel Stempel of Wellesley and Neil Cohen and partner Paul Wolfson of Washington, DC. Dear brother of Roberta Cowan of Marshfield. Loving grandfather of Alexander, Sydney and Chase.
Graduate of Skowhegan High School and University of Maine (Orono). Served in US Army during Korean War. One of his first ventures was raising chickens destined for the kosher marketplace. Moved to Portland in 1962 and began operations as a brown egg producer/processor. The aptly named Co-Hen Egg Farms eventually relocated to a fully integrated facility in Dayton Maine.

Upon retirement in the early 1990s Maurice moved part time to Boca Raton. Lifelong supporter of Jewish causes including United Jewish Appeal, Portland ME, Israel Bonds, Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County and Israel Children Centers. Endowed the Harry and Ida Cohen scholarship fund at the University of Maine. His fabulous cooking, generosity, curiosity, humor and force of personality will be sorely missed by all.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 28th at 1PM in the New Tifereth Israel Cemetery-232 Fuller Street, Everett, MA. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Israel Tennis Centers Foundation 3275 West Hillsboro Blvd, Suite 102, Deerfield Beach, FL 33442 or to the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center at FAU 777 Glades Road, #AZ-79, Boca Raton, FL 33431.
