EICESTER: Diane (Smith) Stewart ,73 of Peter Salem Rd., was called to the Lord Thursday, March 3 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester after a sudden illness.
She leaves her husband of 53 years, Leon J. Stewart, her daughter and best friend, Brenda M. Germain and her husband Todd of Worcester, two sons Brian M. Stewart of Worcester and Barry M. Stewart and his wife Lisa of Spencer, two brothers Howard and Joseph Smith of Mesquite, Tx., two sisters Phyllis Benedict of Cohoes, N.Y, and Gloria Pepe of Lincoln, NH., five grandchildren Jana, James, Peter, Angela and Celia, and a numerous amount of nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter Barbara Stewart and sisters Alice Benedict and Shirley Bigness. She was the surrogate Grammy to Jordyn, Ben, Hunter and Lily.
Diane worked at Masterman's in Auburn for many years. She was a member of Worcester Fitness, both the Leicester and Worcester Senior Centers.
She enjoyed exercise, like water classes and tai chi. She also enjoyed making floral arrangements, baking, casino trips, going to the movies, lunch with her friends and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a great fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. Diane was everyone's BFF.
She loved her trips to Hampton Beach, travelling with her husband and friends. Diane loved live theater and music events. She enjoyed watching the birds in her back yard. She loved her work at Masterman's and everyone there.
Born in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of Howard Smith and Alice Smith Westcott.
Funeral services for Diane will be held on Tuesday, March 8 at 11 a.m. in Christ the Rock Fellowship Church, 1411 Main St., Worcester. Calling hours are Monday, Mar.7 from 4 to 7 pm at the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester.
