Obituary

WORCESTER-Luz Elenia Rubert-Lopez, 65, died Saturday, February 13, 2015. She is survived by two granddaughters; Nialani Isabel Pope, whom she cared for and lived with, and Kiara Buchla of Connecticut; her dear friend, Rafaela Morales-Rosa of Worcester and Rafaela’s son Jonathan; many close friends in Worcester and Bridgeport, Trumbull and Milford, CT; and a daughter Maria Rubert-Lopez of Worcester.

Luz, even in her declining years, continued to be a wellspring of courage, love, passion and devotion for life’s journey and had a playful sense of humor. She understood that she was given the gift of life and now she had to give it back. Luz was a person of faith and conviction. She was extremely involved in the Lutheran church and a longtime member of the New England Synod Council. One of her greatest gift, for others, was her ability to share her musical talents.

Luz was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico and after graduating from college in Puerto Rico she left and earned a master’s degree in the United States. Luz was a counselor at Quinsigamond Community College for over 23 years retiring in 2002 as Director of Counseling Services. Through her work, she was able to touch many lives and provided guidance and a compass for those looking to achieve their intended outcomes. She understood the challenge and was able to make a difference in every student’s life. After retirement, she taught in the public school system in Stratford, Ct. for several years, before returning to the City of Worcester.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 20 at Zion Lutheran Church, 70 Main Street, Oxford, MA 01540. In lieu of flowers, an educational fund is being set up for Nialani I. Pope please contact the family for further information.
