Arthur Warren Mills, II died peacefully on January 16, 2016. He was 88 years old.
A devoted husband and father of six, Arthur was born in Newton, Mass. on January 22, 1927. He was a graduate of Wellesley High School and Wentworth Institute. At the age of 16 he trained carrier pigeons, which were used in World War II by Allied Forces to carry messages behind enemy lines. Arthur went on to enlist in the Navy and served 7 years on destroyers in the South Pacific in both World War II and the Korean War.
A lifelong resident of Wellesley, he was a master electrician and proprietor of A&W Electric for 37 years. He went on to become the Executive Secretary for the Massachusetts Board of State Examiners of Electricians; and concluded his career as a wiring inspector for the town of Natick, Mass.
Arthur was a proud member of the Tin Can Sailors (the national association of destroyer veterans) and the Massachusetts Electrical Contractors Association. Arthur carried his great love of the sea throughout his life, and found great pleasure working in his garden.
Arthur is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann, and his five daughters: Janet Mills-Knudsen of Woburn, Mass., Laurel Mills of Ashland, Mass., Diana Jonas of North Potomac, Md., Marcia Mills of Marina Del Rey, Cal., and Tracey Arminio of La Jolla, Cal. He was predeceased by his son, Arthur Warren Mills, III in 2013. He was a beloved grandfather to 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He will be missed by all who loved him.

Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington Street (Rt. 16), Wellesley, Thursday, January 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; followed by a funeral service at the Wellesley Village Church, 2 Central St Wellesley at 1:00 p.m. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery, 50 Glenwood St., South Natick. In lieu of flowers, donations in Arthur’s name may be made to the Tin Can Sailors or the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C.
