Dateline: Norton, MA Robert F. Powers, age 73, of Norton, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the embracing love of his family on Wednesday, December 9, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Mary F. (LeBlanc) Powers, to whom he was wed for nearly 50 years. Born in Newton, MA on September 19, 1942, he was a loving son of the late Robert M. and Frances C. (Farnsworth) Powers. Bob grew up in Waltham and was a 1960 graduate of Waltham High School. During the Vietnam Era, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged on September 7, 1965 with the rank of Airman Second Class. Prior to retiring, Mr. Powers had worked for over 35 years for the United States Postal Service at the South Station Annex and retired as a Bulk Mail Technician. He had made his home in Norton for the past 45 years and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. Bob’s favorite times spent were those with his adoring family and his dog “Bo”. He was quite computer literate and enjoyed helping others with his knowledge of computers. Bob also enjoyed reading and when younger was an avid freshwater fisherman. Mr. Powers was a great mentor and role model to everyone close in his life and at the time of his death, was anticipating the birth of his second great granddaughter. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his loving and devoted children Cheryl A. Sowers of Norton, Robert E. Powers and his wife Michaela of Texas, Michelle E. Keenan and her husband Kyle of Taunton and Kathleen M. Barrett and her husband Scott of Taunton. He was the dear brother of Patricia Beaudette of Sudbury, Mary E. Cotter of Marlboro, Richard Powers of Waltham, Carol Venuti of Tewkesbury, William Powers of Waltham, Nancy Casella of Waltham, Betty Finley of Leominster and the late John Powers. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Kayleigh Valentine, Joshua Myhill, Robin Myhill, Lea Raedel, Jerry Boulay, Cassandra Valley, Alexandra Boulay, Devon Keenan, Tyler Keenan, Jonathan Barrett, Nicholas Barrett and Cameron Barrett, his great granddaughter Bella Bernier, and numerous nieces and nephews. His Funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, December 14th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday December 13th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
