Margaret "Maggie" Benedict

Margaret T. “Maggie” (Leone) Benedict passed away peacefully at the Addison Gilbert Hospital of Gloucester on Friday night. She was 97. Born and raised in Boston’s West End, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Michelina (DeBenedictis) Leone. Maggie lived in Medford for over 30 years before settling in Gloucester. She worked many years as a purchasing agent with Hughes and Potter in Boston. She later was a salesperson for the former El-Jay Jewelers. She was active with and served as President of Medford High School Football Association. She was also a member of the junior league of the Women’s Italian Club of Boston. A long-time member of the Bass Rocks Beach Club in Gloucester, she was devoted to her family, loved to cook and spend time with those she loved.


The beloved wife of the late Albert Benedict, She was a devoted mother of Albert Benedict, Jr and his wife Lorna of North Andover and Robert Benedict and his wife Therese Bellissimo of Amagansett, NY. The loving grandmother of Jason, Amy, Sheryl, Brian and Cole she was also a loving great-grandmother to Eloise, Nicholas, Griffin, Bennett, Cristian, Oliver, Vera and Eva. The dear and devoted sister of Gloria Leone of Gloucester she is predeceased by her brothers Amodeo, Victor and Richard Leone.

Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Tuesday, December 1st at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 11:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit at the funeral home on Monday 4 – 8 PM.
