TEWKSBURY - S. Sgt. William R. “Billy” Hastie, age 30, who was raised in Tewksbury and
Dracut, died Sunday, May 8, at his home in Great Falls, Montana. He was currently stationed at
Malstrom A.F.B., Great Falls, Montana.
He was born in Arlington, July 5, 1974, a son of Laurel (Payne) Hastie of Methuen and William
G. Hastie of Medford. He was raised in Tewksbury and Dracut, and had graduated with Dracut
High School’s Class of 1992.
Upon graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Air Force, and currently held the rank of Staff Sargent.
During his ten years with the Air Force, he has been awarded the Air Force Commendation,
Achievement, Good Conduct, Global War of Terrorism, and the National Defense Medals, along
with many ribbons.
Besides his parents, he is survived by three children, William L. Hastie, Noah D. Hastie and
Kaitlyn Wetherly; two brothers, Mark E. Hastie and his wife Nicole (Daneau) of Dracut, Michael
B. Hastie and his fiancé, Tara O’Brien both of Methuen; one niece, Anna Hastie; one nephew,
Joshua Hastie; aunts and uncles, Blair and Denise (Caso) Payne of Bradford, Mark Payne of
Winthrop, James and Jan Hastie and Gail Hastie all of Cambridge, and his former wife, Shila
(Keegan) Hastie of Portland OR.
His funeral was held Friday, May 13,in the funeral home. Burial with Air Force Honors was at
Tewksbury Cemetery.
