Obituary

Marwood E. Rand, 82, of Leicester and Eastham died Saturday, July 18th at home. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Nancy M. (McKeon) Rand; a son, Bradford E. Rand and his wife Jennifer of Leicester; three daughters, Debra L. Friedman and her husband Kenneth of Leicester, Marcy B. McNaboe and her husband John of Leicester and Meaghan Smith and her husband Scott of Harwich; 8 grandchildren, Shannon Warren and her husband, Dale, Kelsey Rand, Kara Friedman, Emily Friedman and her fiancé Michael London, Liam and Sinead McNaboe, Lindsay and Andrew Smith.

He was born in Worcester the son of Samuel M. and Marion (Kavanaugh) Rand. Marwood graduated from Worcester Junior College and Clark University and also completed the School of Industrial Management program at WPI. He worked at Wyman Gordon Corporation for 30 years, retiring as Director of Purchasing in 1992. While at Wyman Gordon Corporation, Mr. Rand was the largest purchaser of titanium in the world and worked on the Apollo 12 project with NASA. Mr. Rand was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Pius X Church. He served the town of Leicester as a member of the school committee, the planning board, the school building committee and as the town moderator. He also was the task force chairmen of the Route 9 West Corridor Study. During his retirement he volunteered at the Cape Cod National Seashore, was a tour guide with Red Star Tours in Boston and Cape Cod and was a member of Orleans/Eastham Order of Elks.

Marwood enjoyed wintering on Hutchinson Island, Florida and traveling with his wife Nancy to Europe, China and Ireland. Mr. Rand enjoyed spending time on his boat, feeding the birds and working in his vegetable garden. His grandchildren were the joy of his life and he cherished the time he spent with them.

His funeral is Saturday, July 25th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Pius X Church, 1154 Main Street, Leicester. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, July 24th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
