Obituary

WEBSTER – Mary S. (Gwiazdowski) Polacek, 99, died Sunday, May 10, 2015 in Harrington Healthcare at Hubbard. Her husband of 56 years, Stephen J. Polacek, died in 1995.
She leaves a daughter, Carol M. Reich and her husband John of Webster; a son, Kenneth S. Polacek and his wife Willie of Palm Harbor, FL; 5 grandchildren, David Reich, Mary Ellen Maynes and her husband Timothy, Melissa Amato and her husband Thomas, Stephen Polacek and his wife Patti, and Stacey Reeves and her husband Mark; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Gwiazdowski and by 2 sisters, Florence Gamel and Josephine Bachand.
She was born on July 29, 1915 in Webster, a daughter of Alexander and Stasia (Mrozinski) Gwiazdowski and was a lifelong resident, living on Goddard Street until moving to Oakwood Rehab (now Brooksdie Rehab) 15 years ago.
Mrs. Polacek worked as a stitcher at B & W Footwear Company for many years, retiring in 1977. She was member of St. Joseph Basilica. She enjoyed gardening.
The funeral will be held Monday, May 18, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace. Visitation will be from 8:15 to 9:15 Monday morning in the funeral home prior to the service. Donations in her name may be made to either Brookside Rehab & Nursing Center Patient Activities Fund, 11 Pontiac Avenue, or to St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street, both Webster, MA 01570.
