Obituary

Calvin J. "Buddy" Cromwell, Jr., 79, of New Bedford died Saturday February 12, 2005 at the Blaire House after a long illness. He was the husband of Stella (Moraes) Cromwell.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Calvin J. and Lena (Sylvester) Cromwell, he was raised in Wareham and lived in New Bedford for many years.

Mr. Cromwell was the proprietor of Buddy's Auto Salvage Company.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and participated in the Battles of Central Europe, the Ardennes, and the Rhineland. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

He enjoyed restoring antique automobiles and belonged to several antiques auto clubs. In his younger days, he had been active in stock car racing.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, David Cromwell, Paul Cromwell, and Steven Cromwell, all of New Bedford; three daughters, Patricia Blouin and her husband Kenneth, Carolyn Cromwell, and Kathy Cromwell, all of New Bedford; three brothers, McKinley Cromwell and Lorenzo Cromwell, both of Connecticut, and James Cromwell of Virginia; three sisters, Dorothy Cromwell of New Bedford, Gertrude Cromwell and Lucy Cromwell, both of Connecticut; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Tuesday February 15, 2005 at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday February 14, 2005 from 5-8 PM. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
