Jimmie Enoch “Jim” Collier, age 86 of Americus and Manchester, Ga., passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 at his residence in Magnolia Manor, Americus.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Manchester, Ga., with Dr. Larry Stegall officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, at Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Manchester.
Mr. Collier was born November 10, 1927 in Meriwether County, Ga., the son of Claud “Pete” Collier and Bessie Mae Moore Collier. He was raised in Meriwether County and was a U. S. Army Air Corp veteran of WWII. He resided many years in Fitzgerald, Ga., where he raised his family and served there as the Extension Agent for Ben Hill County. Upon his retirement there in 1983 he and his late wife Julia returned to live in Manchester. He was a former member and deacon of Fitzgerald First Baptist Church, where he also served as a Sunday School teacher, and was currently a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Manchester, where he was a deacon and had served as the church Treasurer. He had a combined number of 49 years teaching Sunday School at Fitzgerald and Manchester. He was a founding member of the Fitzgerald Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Manchester Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by his wife Julia Ross Collier.
Survivors include his sons; Mark Collier and his wife Judy of Americus, Ga., and Craig Collier and his wife Kenna of Collinsville, Ill.; a daughter, Becky Herrle and her husband Ed of Chesapeake, Va.; two brothers, Jerry “Bud” Collier and his wife Bonnie of Manchester, and Jack Collier and his wife Nancy of Tazewell, Tn.; a sister Betty McInvale and her husband Roy of Athens, Ga.; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
