Obituary

Miriam Fried, a well-know Provincetown artist lived life on her own terms, always! So it was not surprising when she passed away in her own home on July 4th, Independence Day.

Born in 1916 in Patterson, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Helen Renstrom, an opera singer and leading lady in all the Schubert productions and Charles Winn, an accomplished pianist and composer who wrote the theme song for the Hopalong Cassidy film.

Predeceased by her beloved husband of over 65 years, Seymour 'Cy' Fried, they were totally devoted to each other. They could be found painting quietly side-by-side every day in their studio on Conwell Street or walking hand-in-hand down Commercial Street. As an adult, Miriam studied briefly with Robert Natkin but considered herself a self-taught abstract artist. Her paintings are in many private and public collections in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

Miriam is survived by her son, David Fried and his wife Carol of Virginia, their children and grandchildren, her nephew Danny Pollock, her Provincetown family, Brenda and Jill, Violet, Bunny and Greg, Guy and Scott, Lynn, Jeff and Stephen and her many, many friends in the art community.

She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. At her request, there will be no service.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, 460 Commercial St, Provincetown MA 02657 or a charity of one's own choice.
