Obituary

Mr. Robert P. “Bob” Sylvia, of Taunton, died Friday, June 6 in the New England Sinai Hospital, Stoughton, following a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Ellen (Perry) Sylvia. He was born 74 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Alfred and Josephine (Stefanik) Sylvia. He was educated in Taunton and was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island. Bob was a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Business Teacher at Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School for 25 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany. Bob enjoyed sailing, and was Past Commodore of the Shawomet Yacht Club.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 1 son: Robert Sylvia and his wife, Cheryl of East Taunton; 2 daughters: Laura Sylvia and her husband, Michael Lam of Haworth, N.J., and Lynn Sylvia and her husband, Raymond Sirois of Taunton; 1 brother: Alfred Sylvia of Raynham; 5 grandchildren: Kathryn Sylvia, Kristyn Sylvia, Elliot Lam, Ian Lam, and Ella Sirois, and several nieces and nephews. Bob was also the brother of the late Madeline Tavares.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Holy Rosary Church, 80 Bay Street, on Wednesday, June 11 at 11:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Tuesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
