Obituary

John B. Manney, 82, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at home. He was the husband of Sheila A. (Murray) Manney. They had been happily married for 57 years.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Walter and Margaret (McDonald) Manney. He had lived in Johnston for most of his life.
He served in the US Marine Corps during Korea. He was a Videographer for the State of RI for 28 years. He was a member of the Smithfield Lodge of Elks, #2359 and had served as Exaulted Ruler. He loved being on the water and was a USCG Certified Master Vessel Captain. Mr. Manney was the owner of the former Kirby's Café and had taught at Johnson & Wales University and in the Central Falls School System.
He was a graduate of LaSalle Academy and Providence College.
He is also survived by his children: Michaela Silvia and her husband, Michael of Johnston, J. Patrick Manney and his wife, Terri of Orlando, FL, Matthew Manney and Lisa Bennett of Reading, MA, David Manney of Johnston, Terence Manney of Margate, FL, Stephen Manney and Shirley Drake, of West Palm Beach, FL, Jonathan Manney and his wife, Dawn of North Smithfield and Joseph Manney and his wife, Gina of Cranston, his seven grandchildren, and his brother, James Manney and his wife, Suzanne of Falmouth, MA. He was the brother of the late Walter Manney.
Funeral service Thursday at 9am in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial will follow in RI Veterans Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 4-7pm.
