Joan A. (Dion) Vizena, 80, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital. She was the loving wife of Eugene A. Vizena, with whom she shared nearly fifty-eight years of marriage.
Born in Salem in July 16, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Juliette (Therriault) Dion. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a longtime Danvers resident.
After raising her family, Joan was employed first at Hotwatt, and later at Hunt Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide.
She enjoyed spending time as a chaperone with the Chuting Starts and Blue Angels Drum & Bugle Corps and in her youth was an accomplished roller skater. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, caring for family and friends, and her daily walks at the Liberty Tree Mall.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her ABCDEFG children, Barbara Reutter of FL, Alice Vizena of Danvers, Catherine Marchant of ID, Daniel Vizena of Danvers, Edward Vizena of HI, Francine Blackwell and her husband Todd of ID, and Gene Vizena and his wife Nicole of NH, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and her siblings, Alfred and Edward Dion and Rita Egnet.
Her Funeral Service will be Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at 11AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
