CAHILL, John J.

Aged 87, of Londonderry, N.H. on Jan. 2, 2014, after a long illness throughout which he maintained his good humor, sharp intellect and gentle kindness. Jack was a wonderful husband, an exceptional father, great leader, skilled negotiator, and good friend to many far and wide. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Louise A. Cahill, his brothers Thomas and Richard Cahill, his sister Helen Cahill, O.P., sisters-in-law Rita Griffin and Joan Cahill, his children Marylou (Joseph) Bourdow, Annemarie Mattison, Timothy (Minoo) Cahill, Carolyn (Richard) Glass and Patricia (Christopher) Guzikowski, and his grandchildren, Brian and Kerry Armendinger, Sarah Mattison, Jonathan Glass, and Lucia, Sophie and Nora Guzikowski, Kate (Charles) and Alex Juhl, and many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Cambridge, MA, John began working odd jobs during the Depression to help support his family. Educated at Cambridge High & Latin and Boston College (’49), he joined the R. T. French Co. in 1951 as a salesman, working his way up the ranks until his retirement as Vice President of Human Resources (Reckitt & Colman) in 1991. John and his wife resided in Rochester, NY before moving to San Francisco for three years where he was regional director of sales. He moved to NJ with his family to take up a new position before returning to Rochester in 1969. John and Louise retired to New Hampshire in 1991, where he became a gentleman farmer for the family homestead. He also volunteered with SCORE of Concord, N.H. and worked in the local food pantry. He was a parishioner at St. Jude’s parish in Londonderry, and enjoyed summers in the Thousand Islands, N.Y. and winters in St. Petersburg, FL.

Calling hours 2 –6 p.m. on Sunday January 5th in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, N.H.
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 6, St. Peter's Church in Cambridge, MA at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Parish, 435 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, N.H.
