Joan Roy, 76, of Hampstead, NH died August 16, 2013, at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital, in Haverhill, MA, due to complications resulting from a recent stroke. Her loving family surrounded her. Joan was born in Saugus, MA on February 24, 1937, a daughter of the late Irving and Ellen Denham. She worked as a Reading Specialist in the Lynn, MA public school system for 28 years. She enjoyed golfing, gardening and boating, and was an avid reader. Joan loved spending time with her friends each winter in North Fort Myers, FL.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Leslie. True soul mates, they were married for 40 years and shared a special love. She leaves her daughters Cheryl Hanninen and her husband Michael of Salem, NH, and Lori Stolos and her husband Nickolas of Derry, NH. She had six granddaughters whom she adored: Joanie, Jacquelyn, Cynthia, Chelsea, Mackenzie and Camryn.
Joan leaves three stepchildren: Deborah Fauth and her husband Richard of Salem, NH, Thomas Roy and his wife Linda of Danvers, MA, and Gary Roy and his wife Lori of Concord, NH. She had nine step-grandchildren: Michael, Jamison, Jonathan, Kara, Briana, Benjamin, Alexandria, Madison, and is predeceased by Patrick. Joan also leaves her sisters, Pat Stires of CA, Judy Murray of ME, and her brother Dick Denham of MA.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday August 21, 2013 from 4 – 7 pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St. Derry, NH. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am at First Parish Church, 47 East Derry Rd, Derry, NH.
