
William T. “Sonny” Manchester, 92, of Little Compton, died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at St. Anne’s Hospital. He was the husband of the late Rose (Medeiros) Manchester. Born and raised in Little Compton he was the son of the late Edward L. and Mattie F. (Simmons) Manchester.
Mr. Manchester was A U.S. Army Veteran serving his country in WWII. He was a self-employed landscaper and was the former caretaker of Hillside Cemetery, Tiverton for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, Little Compton Post # 37 and known as the Pumpkin Man on West Main Road.
He leaves behind 2 sons: William L. Manchester and Thomas E. Manchester both of Little Compton; 7 daughters: Ann Brooks of Little Compton, Helen Tarter of S. Dennis, Rosemary Johnson of Conway, SC, Constance Bonenfant, NH, Dorothy Manchester of Little Compton, Susan Reis of Little Compton and Debra Alvernes of Little Compton; 1 sister: Susan Heinz of NY; 19 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; He was the father of the late Paul Manchester and brother of the late Elizabeth Young and Virginia Cordeiro.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the POTTER FUNERAL HOME, 81 Reed Road, Westport.
Interment in Hillside Cemetery, Tiverton.
