MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA: Grace L. (Thompson) Cooper, died peacefully Monday, July 15, 2013 in the Essex Park Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late George Cooper and former spouse of the late Hardy C. Nalley, Sr.
Born in Cambridge on November 28, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Marion (Chamberlain) Thompson. Grace was a longtime resident of both Beverly and Manchester-by-the-Sea. She was a graduate of Story High School class of 1939 and graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School.
During World War II, she worked for the U.S. Government in Presque Isle, Maine. Grace retired form the Beverly Hospital where she worked for many years. In her retirement she enjoyed crossword puzzles, bingo and watching the Boston Red Sox. She had a lovely singing voice and was especially fond of the music of Frank Sinatra.
Grace is survived by her loving family, daughters, Brenda Duryea and her husband, Bill of Beverly and Donna Cormier and her husband, Walt Pavlo of Manchester-by-the-Sea; her son, Hardy Nalley and his wife, Betsy of Manchester-by-the-Sea; six grandchildren, Mandy McCormack and her husband, Chad, Kristy Walker and her husband, Andrew, Will and Kelsey Duryea, Kirk Nalley and his wife, Sandie and Sarah Schad and her husband, Cory; five great-grandchildren, Megan and Kaitlyn McCormack, Tanner and Elisa Nalley and Abigail Schad; three sisters, Sally Carney and her husband, Peter, Dorothy Waszak and Lorraine Keane and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Bernice Thompson and a brother-in-law, Joseph Waszak.
Her funeral service will by held on Saturday in the Rosedale Cemetery, Manchester-by-the-Sea at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice.
