Eugene O. Boakye, 63, of Worcester died, Thursday, April 18th at Oakdale Rehabilitation center. He leaves his wife of 32 years, Bonnie Sue (Lucas) Boakye; a son, Nicol Ekow Boakye of Worcester; two daughters, Tameria Boakye and Worcester and Eugenia Esi Boakye of Brighton; two grandchildren, Sarah and Issac Boateng of Worcester and several brothers and sisters. He was predeceased by a son, Nana Yaw Boakye who died in March of 1980.
He was born in Sekondi, Ghana, the son of Joseph Yaw and Emelia (Esi Quashie) Boakye and was the grandson of the late Nana Sir Ofori-Atta I. Eugene was educated in Ghana. Upon migrated to the United States, he was employed at Neles-Jamesbury for 20 years as a computer machinist operator, Foreign Auto and AA Transportation where he was a driver for 8 years, retiring in 2011. Mr. Boakye was a Jehovah’s Witness, he was a member at the Franklin Street Kingdom Hall. He loved sports and was an avid tennis player, he also enjoyed field hockey and pole vaulting. Music was one of his passions; he enjoyed playing the organ and signing. Eugene also had a gift for making people laugh; this is what we would all miss along with his interest in current affairs, politics and sports.
Eugene’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his family and friends for their kindness and support, especially, Dr. Rita Semaan, Dr. Bogdan Nedelescu, Dr. Bradley Switzer, Dr. Venu Bathini and Nurse Practitioner, Mary Sullivan, the doctors, nurses and aides at UMass-Memorial Hospital, the staff of Critical Care System, especially Barbara, the entire staff at Oakdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the entire staff at The Meadows of Leicester and VNA Hospice for their compassion and care during Eugene’s illness.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4th at 11:00 AM in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 659 Franklin Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. There are no calling hours. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester is directing arrangements.
