James R. Shoesmith, 91, of Fall River died Friday, February 22, 2013 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility, New Bedford. He was the former husband of Wilma Shoesmith. Born in Westport, he was son of the late James and Mary (Davenport) Shoesmith. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Army. Prior to retirement in 1977, he was a firefighter for the City of Fall River for 32 years.
Survivors include a brother: Stephen Shoesmith of Westport; 2 sisters: Elsie Cochran of Dartmouth and Hannah Craig of E. Providence, RI; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late George Shoesmith, Gordon Shoesmith, Grace Simonds, Ada Taggart and Mildred Connors.
At his request there will be no services.
