Obituary

Matthew M. McCabe Jr., 87, of Windham, NH, formerly of Lynn, MA, passed away on Monday, November 05, 2012, at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH after a brief illness.

He was born in Easton, PA and attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School there. He attended St. Phillip & James High School in Phillipsburg, NJ. Mr. McCabe served with the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 -1945, serving aboard LCI 229 and LST 49. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for injuries received during battle.

A Tool & Die Maker, Machine Shop Manager, and Customer Service Manager, he was employed by Hawkes Grinding Company in Lynn, MA; McIntyre Brass Works in Cambridge, MA; and Autoroll Machine Corporation in Middleton, MA.

Matt was a communicant of St. Matthew’s Parish in Windham and a Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 7572. He was a member of The Derry/Salem Elks Lodge #2226, American Legion Post # 0588 of Easton, PA, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He has previously served as a member of the Windham Board of Adjustment.
Matt enjoyed numerous activities during his lifetime including hunting, skiing, playing cards, spending time with family & friends, traveling and spending winters in Hollywood, FL with his wife Anna.

Son of the late Matthew and Florence (Sickles) McCabe, he was predeceased by his son Matthew M. McCabe III, his brother Francis McCabe, and sister Rose Gamble. Surviving family members include his beloved wife of 60 years, Anna (Hartnett) McCabe of Windham, his daughter-in-law Mary Ann McCabe, his son Mark E. McCabe and his wife Doreen, grandchildren, Matthew M. McCabe IV, Mark E. McCabe Jr., Amy Keefe, Erin Bolduc, Lyra Clark, and Alexander Clark, brother James McCabe of Warren, RI, sister Elizabeth Hawk, and brother-in-law Richard Hawk of Easton, PA, several great children, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Thurs., Nov. 8th from 4-7 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 12 Noon at St. Matthew Church, Windham, NH. Burial is in cemetery on the Plains, Windham, NH.
