BEVERLY: Carole Ann (Mitchell) Wilcox, 72, died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, October 18, 2012. She was predeceased by the love of her life and longtime companion, Walter Macdonald.
Born and raised in Montclair, New Jersey on July 4, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Doris (Simons) Mitchell. She was a graduate of Montclair High School and also North Shore Community College, where she received her Associate’s Degree in Human Services. As a young girl Carole spent a brief time living in Medeiin, Colombia and has been a resident of Beverly since 1967.
Carole worked as an Activities Director at the Liberty Pavilion in Beverly as well as several other local nursing homes. In 2007 she retired from the Erving Senior Care Center where she worked as the Senior Care Coordinator for many years. Her work with the elderly population was something that she truly enjoyed and succeeded in. Carole had a big and warm heart and continued to care and support her clients after her work with them was completed.
You could best describe Carole as a person who “walked to the beat of her own drum.” She was also very expressive in all that she did. This could be seen in many aspects of her life. Whether it is sewing curtains or making a dress to wear to a special occasion or just being colorful with her emotions. She was not afraid to say what she was feeling. Carole was a creative person who loved doing crafts, making gifts and decorating homes. All these attributes were part of what made Carole’s personality so warm and hospitable. She also liked to wear costume jewelry, and enjoyed driving large cars, especially her 1967 Ford Galaxy. The time she spent outside in her garden and trips to the ocean were above all the things she especially liked to do. She was a member of the Orange Gun Club for many years.
She is survived by her four children, Alison Carnes of Black Canyon City, AZ, William Frazier and his wife, Olympia of Stoneham, Theresa Anne Frazier of Stoneham and Gary Wilcox, Jr., and his wife, Tracy of Salem; six grandchildren, Chelsea Carnes, James, Daniel and Katharine Frazier and Ashley and Breana Wilcox; a brother, Kent Mitchell and his wife, Sara of Brookline; a uncle, Harold “Skip” Simons of FL; a niece, Katherine Mitchell of Brookline; a nephew, Eliot Mitchell and his wife, Jane Sandor-Mitchell of Los Angeles, CA; several cousins; longtime friends, Margaret Valentine, Tom Winslow, Patricia Newman and the Purdy Family of Beverly.
