Obituary

George M. O'Hara, Sr., 78, of South Dartmouth died February 27, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Barbara V. (Campbell) O'Hara, and son of the late Arthur and Mildred (Coffin) O'Hara.

Mr. O'Hara was born and raised in East Boston and had lived in Dartmouth since 1959.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in South Dartmouth.

In 1959, Mr. O'Hara established the George O'Hara Chevrolet Dealership in New Bedford where he served as president until retiring in 1986. He was also one of the founders of Southeastern Bank & Trust and Whaling City Cable Television, both in New Bedford.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and was a recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal.

Mr. O'Hara was a member of the Massachusetts Automobile Dealers Association, the National Automobile Dealers Association, the Wamsutta Club, the Knights of Malta, the Wharf Rats Club in Nantucket and the Clover Club of Boston.

Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, George M. O'Hara, Jr., and John P. O'Hara, both of South Dartmouth; 2 daughters, Barbara A. Dugan of Denver, Colorado and Patricia E. O'Hara of South Dartmouth; a sister, Florence Collins of Newton; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was the great-grandfather of the late Ian Barlow, and brother of the late Arthur Michael O'Hara, James O'Hara, Ronald O'Hara and Leona Driscoll.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Saturday, March 2nd at 12 Noon in St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth. Visiting hours are omitted.Interment South Dartmouth Cemetery.
